THE MUSIC OF THE MIDDLE EAST includes the Arabic-speaking countries of the Arabian peninsula and North Africa, Persian music from Iran, Jewish music from Israel, plus Armenian, Kurdish, Azeri, Cypriot, Turkish, traditional Assyrian, and Coptic Christian ritual music. It's a complex mixture of history and tradition, innocence and wisdom, longing and heartache, passion and desire.
