PGM 1107 'AN EASTER CELEBRATION' : march 25 - april 1

THIS WEEK Christians around the world observe the Easter holiday, remembering the epic story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. The powerful themes of death and rebirth, and the related celebrations of Holy Week, give the event a depth and majesty that mark it as the most important Christian festival of the year.

As you'd expect, Easter has inspired some of the most sublime and exalted music of the Christian tradition. On this transmission of Hearts of Space from guest producer ELLEN HOLMES, choral and instrumental classics from across nine centuries of Christian sacred music, on a program called: AN EASTER CELEBRATION.

PGM 938R 'WAITING' : mar.18-25

IF THERE'S A PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE THAT ALMOST EVERYONE HATES, it's waiting.

It's a shame, because waiting is unavoidable, like death and taxes —
and just about as popular.

Waiting in line...is barely tolerated. God help the person who tries to cut in.

Waiting while driving is even worse, breeding dangerous, irrational behavior.
We have a name for that: road rage.

Waiting causes impatience, anger, and stress. We have drugs for that.

We have special rooms for waiting. They're rarely happy places.

In short, waiting is almost always considered a waste of time. A bad thing.

But it doesn't have to be that way. If you have a smart phone, you've already discovered the joys of "continuous episodic computing." It makes waiting productive.  Just please...not while you're driving.

With a change in attitude, waiting becomes an opportunity for exploration, a time for discovery. A time to read, play, watch or listen, connect with friends, write.
Or simply a quiet space to catch up with yourself.

A good thing.

And it's the perfect reason for us to return to the gorgeous melodies and flawless musicianship of traditional Celtic music, with a focus on the slow airs, deep laments, and poignant ballads. On this transmission of Hearts of Space from our longtime guest producer ELLEN HOLMES, a program called GAELIC BLESSING.

IF THERE'S ONE THING that Ambient electronic music excels at creating, it's the experience of floating in space. And when that space is high, light, and airy, we call it "atmospheric."

Atmospheres have qualities — elevation, temperature, brightness, color, density: low to high, cold to warm, dark to light, and a wide range of tones. When we immerse ourselves in sonic atmospheres, our normal sense of time seems to disappear: suspended in space, we lose track of time. Einstein probably had a special theory about that.
