White t-shirts, sweatshirts and aprons added to the HOS store

Longtime HOS fan Russell Farley asked for a white t-shirt to be added to our store. Seems he has a cat problem and black clothes are a non-starter at his house.

Happily done!  Below is the image, a variant on the one on our 'space black' items. While we were at it, we added a  variety of different shirt options in white and light colors: organic and regular, sleeveless, short and long sleeve, plus sweatshirts and even white and black aprons, since we'll all be cooking up a storm during the holidays.

PGM 894 "IMAGINARY ROADS" : Week of Nov. 27th...

The quiet days after the Thanksgiving celebration are an interlude to rest, regroup, and prepare for the busy holiday season ahead. We turn from the dark times of Scorpio to the season of light; internalize the spirit of gratitude we feel for friends and family and the good fortune we have...and perhaps watch a bit of football while we polish off the last of those endless turkey sandwiches.

At Hearts of Space, it's time for us to return to our theme of virtual travel through music. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an ambient acoustic journey for late autumn called IMAGINARY ROADS.

T-shirts, sweatshirts added to HOS CafePress store

Last week we made a low key announcement here that we'd opened a store for HOS logo merchandise at CafePress.com/heartsofspace.  It was a stealth opening because we only had four products — two mugs and two different sizes of the same poster — so we were just exercising the electronic doors while we got the rest of it together.

Last week we got samples of the posters and they look absolutely awesome!...especially the big 23"x35" image. Thanks NASA, the Hubble Space telescope totally rocks!

We also got samples of the mugs. The mugs themselves are good quality, but the printing on them was too dark. So we replaced it with a new image that will print a lot better.

We've also been busy working on imagery for clothing, and we added black t-shirts (both short and long sleeve) a black sweatshirt, and a black cap. We've developed new HOS logos just for these products. Here's the one for the shirts:

We'll be sending out an email to our mailing list after Thanksgiving announcing the new stuff at the start of the Holiday gift season. UPDATE 2: After receiving a second sample of the black caps, we've pulled them from the HOS store. From what we can tell, no one had actually ordered one, and it's a good thing — the results were very disappointing. The designs are not embroidered as we originally thought from the description on the site, but printed onto white patches using a "dye sublimation" printing process. Whatever they call it, it sucks. We've started looking for an alternative and will post here when we have it.

PGM 893 "TOUCHING the SKY" : Week of Nov. 20th...

The story of contemporary Native American music goes back to 1951 and the founding of Canyon Records in Phoenix, Arizona.  In the almost 60 years since then, traditional forms have been revived, renewed and celebrated, and new styles have emerged from the creative energy of native and western musicians.

From his first Canyon album in 1983, Navajo musician R. CARLOS NAKAI has worked tirelessly to re-establish the Native American cedar flute as an instrument for healing and meditation, extending it far beyond its origins into folk, jazz, country, classical, new age and ambient music. In these new ambient soundscapes, we enter a world of reverence, mystery and ceremony, haunted by the voices of ancient spirits.

On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we focus on the new  ambient dimensions in Native American music...on a journey called TOUCHING THE SKY. Music is by JOHNNY WHITEHORSE, DEBORAH MARTIN & ERIK WOLLO, COYOTE OLDMAN, and SCOTT AUGUST.

What with Thanksgiving around the corner and Christmas on the horizon, we finally got motivated to create our first Hearts of Space gift items.

PGM 747R "NOVEMBER TONES" : Week of Nov. 13th...

In the multi-hued autumn twilight, the rich, coppery tones of the cello resonate naturally with the changing tones of the landscape. Perhaps no western instrument has the musical and emotional range and depth; from its foundational role in the orchestra and the string quartet, to its uncanny vocal emulations and contemplative solo flights — the cello seems to know no boundaries.

On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a cello-infused journey with piano, strings, and a touch of electric guitar, on a program called NOVEMBER TONES.

Music is by the esteemed cellist DAVID DARLING, with Norwegian ambient guitarist TERJE RYPDAL and pianist KETIL BJORNSTAD, MICHAEL GALASSO, JIM FOX, MICHAEL JOHN FINK, and TIGRAN MANSURIAN.

PGM 892 "SHADOWFALL 3" : Week of November 6th...

No season brings more mixed emotions than autumn. Reluctantly, we say goodbye to the warm, relaxing, active days of summer. It's back to work — and there's extra work to prepare for the coming winter.

The nights grow cool, then cold, and with them the first storms of the season arrive with life-giving rain — ironically at the very time much of the natural world is withering and dying. In a final irony, nature celebrates with a passing show of wildly intense colors...a complex palette of reds, oranges, ochres, browns, golds, maroons and purples.

The music of the season embraces these contrasts and contradictions, from resolute activity to melancholy resignation. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an ambient electronic journey for autumn called SHADOWFALL 3.
