When musical tradition meets creative innovation, just about anything can happen. The results can be harmonious or dissonant, fascinating or boring, exciting or torpid.
These days, you can find experiments of all kinds in the blandly named "new music" genre. From the deliberate iconoclasm of descendents of the 20th century Avant-Garde to the stirring pulses of the minimalists, the heady abstractions of the conceptualists, or the contemplative explorations of "deep listening" — classical values are always being stretched and adapted into new forms.
On this late autumn transmission of Hearts of Space, we explore the intersection of classical form and ambient space, with a program of introspective journeys called DUSK TO DUSK. Music is by ROBERT SCOTT THOMPSON, PAUL SAUVANET, STEVE KORNICKI, JIM FOX, SOMEI SATOH, and the MICO NONET.
