We have spatially expanded sounds by BRIAN ENO in collaboration with DAVID PAITCH, DANIEL LANOIS, CLUSTER, and brother ROGER ENO; by MICHAEL STEARNS and STOMU YAMASHTA; plus the eerie harmonic drones of an Aeloian windharp. PGM 052 "SEA AND SKY" : Week of Jan. 18th...

This week we continue our "25 Years in Space" retrospective series with a classic show from 1984. It's a cinematic journey through sonic images of sea and sky — two of the most inspiring environments on earth, and themes for countless artistic expressions throughout the ages.

Star of the show is the fascinating Japanese percussionist and composer STOMU YAMASHTA, plus music from VANGELIS, and STEVE ROACH's early contemplative gem STRUCTURES FROM SILENCE.

PGM 001 "FIRST FLIGHT" : Week of Jan. 11th...

This week we begin our celebration of the 25th anniversary year of the national Hearts of Space program with a series of 25 key programs called (naturally) "25 Years in Space." We'll start with three encore shows this month, and continue with one a month.

We kick off the series with our first program from 1983. It's a classic lineup with music by some of the key names from the HOS pantheon of composers: KITARO, VANGELIS, 20th century Russian composer THOMAS DE HARTMANN, MICHAEL STEARNS, DEUTER, CHARLES LLOYD, MARK ISHAM, DAVID DARLING, and more. It's a journey across 25 years of time and space, called FIRST FLIGHT.

Right from the beginning, we were doing things differently: on one show we go seamlessly from electronic spacemusic to an electronic setting of a traditional Greek ode, to Central Asian-influenced classical music, to several deep contemplative electronic journeys to innerspace realms; we cap off the show with some excellent spacejazz.

PGM 827 "WINTER LIGHT" : Week of Jan. 4th...

Winter...the chill creeps into your bones, while the darkness steals into your psyche.

For most of us, life slows a bit and moves indoors, but for those hardy souls with the metabolism to venture out into the landscape, a world of subtle colors awaits, with deep vistas of heightened clarity, or atmospheric effects of fog, rain and snow.

On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a cold day journey in blue-grey soundscapes called WINTER LIGHT. Music is by JEFF GREINKE, PATRICK O'HEARN, NATHAN YOUNGBLOOD, and BETWEEN INTERVAL.
