The occupation of the remote Himalayan country of Tibet by China in 1949 forced an ancient non-violent Buddhist culture to escape to northern India and Nepal, and from there, to spread around the world. In this way, the folk and religious music and spirituality of Tibet came to the west, along with musicians, artists, monks and teachers like the Dalai Lama.
On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, we focus on the gentle sounds of Tibetan folk music, on a program called MESSENGERS OF PEACE. Featured artists are YUNGCHEN LHAMO, CHOYING DROLMA & STEVE TIBBETTS, PETER KATER & NAWANG KHECHOG, DECHEN SHAK-DAGSAY, and SUZANNE TENG.
