Week of June 30th...

This week we return to one of our favorite warm-weather environments -- the tropical rainforest. We explore this exotic soundscape with electronic and ambient hybrids from a far-flung group of composers, including MANEESH DE MOOR from Holland, ANTONIO TESTA and ALIO DIE from Italy, TUU from England, ARIEL KALMA from France, and STEVE ROACH, LOREN NERELL, KELLY DAVID and others from the U.S.

If wilderness is the preservation of the earth, this wild soundscape has always had a special place in the hearts and minds of the overcivilized. Lose yourself in the FOREST PRIMEVAL.

Week of June 23rd...

With the passing of the solstice this week and temperatures hitting three digits even here on the ocean-blown Northern California coast, we're fully into the summer soundscape. That means spacemusic for flying and floating, and this week's show brings you fine examples from purveyors of blissful calm like MARCONI UNION, ASHERA, GULAN, STU JENKS and A PRODUCE.

Week of June 16th...

This week we reprise one of our timeless space guitar shows. It's deep with talent, from established artists like MICHAEL HEDGES, ALEX DE GRASSI and JOHN DOAN, to relative newcomers like SCOTT HUCKABAY and ROB EVERHARD YOUNG. We also have a group of 'refugees from rock' including MICHAEL BROOK, DAVID SYLVIAN, WARREN CUCCURULLO and more, who lean toward the electronic sound.

These gentlemen take their time, and in so doing, create space for you.

Week of June 9th...

With blossoming of fine weather our thoughts naturally turn to the stunningly beautiful Mediterranean coast of Spain, and the much loved Balearic Islands -- Mallora, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

This area has been a crossroads of musical cultures for centuries, blending influences from Southern Europe, the gypsies, North Africa, and the Middle East with musically gratifying results. We've pulled together a show from contemporary artists like CANTOMA, BLISS and B-TRIBE, as well as more acoustic, timeless selections from ANOUAR BRAHEM, DINO SALUZZI and SAVINA YANNATOU from the essential ECM label, and topped it off with an old ZEUS FABER track from the mid 90's.

It's a journey in the Mediterranean soundscape called BALEARICA.

Week of June 2nd...

This seemed like the perfect week to focus on one of our core artists. AL GROMER KHAN is an old friend who lives in Munich and has been perfecting his unique approach to contemplative music and sound for over three decades and almost 40 albums -- and he's just getting started! We've played his music on Hearts of Space since the late 1970s, even before the national show.

We were provoked by a lovely long letter (remember letters?) from listener Kirk Dodd, gently taking us to task for never doing an artist special on AGK. Point taken, Kirk. Agreed, and now, done. Plus we have easily enough worthy material for two more.

If you're not familiar with Al's music this show will serve as an introduction to the quiet riches in his recorded repertoire and his subtle approach to the Indian sitar as well as his unique approach to electronics. It's the PAISLEY MUSIC of Al Gromer Khan.
