We move into the winter season with a program highlighting the adventurous new spirit in Early Music, and focus on a group of artists who happily move beyond "authentic performance" practice into the realms of improvisation, invention and creative extension. It's all done with total respect for the original sound and music — just not limited by it.
Manfred Eicher has done it again, and 95% of the music on this show is from his ECM label. Come Grammy time you'll be hearing more about Norwegian Baroque guitarist ROLF LISLEVAND and his ensemble, and we've featured six of their creative new pieces. Another big contributor is American lutenist STEPHEN STUBBS and his "Teatro Lyrico" ensemble with their sublime approach to the repertoire, as well as Stephen Stubbs's collaboration with JOHN POTTER of the Hilliard Ensemble on THE DOWLAND PROJECT. All that plus earlier selections by SARBAND and by STEPHAN MICUS round out program 787 — "CAMERATA NOVA."
