It's a very rare thing, but once in a great while we find an extended piece or album that just cries out to become a Hearts of Space show exactly 'as is.' This is one of those times, and the piece is SOLOMBRA by Bay area composer JANIS MATTOX.
The exquisite poetry of Brazilian writer CECELIA MEIRELES inspired Mattox to create a seven movement song cyle, sung in Portuguese by Bolivian soprano KATIA ESCALERA. The music, for electronically enhanced Just Intonation piano, violin, and cello -- could not be more beautiful!
This is the broadcast premiere of a composition that should become as well-loved as Henryk Gorecki's "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs."
